INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the official website (the “Website”) of American Policy Ventures (“we”, “us”, “our”, “APV”).  APV is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that works with policymakers, philanthropists, practitioners and Members of Congress to architect innovative ways to accelerate common sense policy solutions on key issues.  We understand that visitors to our Website may have questions about how we collect and use their personal information.  APV is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our supporters’ personal information.  This Privacy Policy explains our privacy practices, including what personal information we collect from you when you use our Website and how we may use and disclose that personal information.

By using the Website, you agree that your use of the Website is governed by this Privacy Policy.  From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy, and such modifications shall be effective upon posting. When we change this Privacy Policy, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy and notify you of any material changes. We encourage you to periodically check this Privacy Policy for updates.  Your continued use of the Website affirms your agreement to any changes we make to this Privacy Policy.

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU.

We may collect the following categories of personal information from you when you use the Website:

Contact Information.  Information such as your name, phone number, e-mail, and address.

Contribution and Payment Information.  If you make a donation through the Website, your payment information (e.g., credit or debit card type, number, and expiration date; billing address; bank account and routing numbers) will be collected through our third-party payment processors. We will also collect information about your donation (e.g., amount and frequency), and may collect the name of your employer and job title. 

Information You Choose to Provide to Us.  We collect any information you provide to us on or through the Website or in any other way, including the content of your communications when you contact us or interact with us online.

Usage Data and Technical Information.  The Website includes features that use “cookies” (which are small data files containing information about you that is stored on your hard drive), “embedded scripts,” “pixel tags,” and other similar tracking technologies to automatically collect certain information about your device and use of the Website, including “clickstream” data, the domain name of the service providing you with Internet access, your device type and attributes, Internet protocol (IP) address, network connection type (e.g., Wi-Fi, 3G, LTE), browser type and version, operating system and platform, the average time spent on the Website, pages viewed, content searched for, access times and other relevant statistics.

HOW WE USE PERSONAL INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT.

We may use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

Provide and Improve the Website. To provide you with, enhance and improve the Website.

Process Donations. To process donations you make on or through the Website. 

Communicate With You. To respond to your questions or other requests,  and to send you information about your donations or relationship with us.

Website Analytics and Marketing. To analyze your use of our website, including through the use of third-party cookies and other tracking technologies, in order to better understand and optimize usage, advertise, measure conversion tracking and optimize our advertising campaigns. We may also send marketing and promotional e-mails, messages and other correspondence and notifications. Recipients of such communications can unsubscribe by following the specific instructions included in such communications.

Legal Reasons.  We may use your personal information: (i) to protect or defend the legal rights or property of APV or our employees, agents and contractors (including enforcement of our agreements); (ii) to protect the safety and security of our Website and users; (iii) to protect against fraud or for risk management purposes; (iv) to enforce or investigate potential violations of this Privacy Policy; or (v) to comply with law or legal process.

Other Purposes. For other purposes disclosed at the time you provide us with the information or with your consent.

Service Providers.  We may disclose your personal information to our service providers to enable them to provide us with services, such as payment processing and website usage analytics. 

Affiliates.  We may disclose your personal information to our affiliates.

Change of Control. We may disclose your personal information in connection with a sale, merger or acquisition of all or substantially all of the assets of APV or the negotiations thereof. 

Legal Reasons.  We may disclose your personal information: (i) to protect or defend the legal rights or property of APV or our employees, agents and contractors (including enforcement of our agreements); (ii) to protect the safety and security of our Website and users; (iii) to protect against fraud or for risk management purposes; (iv) to enforce or investigate potential violations of this Privacy Policy; or (v) to comply with law or legal process.

Other Purposes. We may disclose your personal information for other purposes disclosed at the time you provide us with the information or with your consent.

DO-NOT-TRACK SIGNALS

Certain browsers purport to allow users to transmit “do-not-track” signals to the websites with which such browsers communicate; however, despite current efforts, there is still disagreement amongst leading Internet standards organizations, industry groups, technology companies and regulators, concerning what, if anything, websites should do when they receive such signals and no standard has been adopted to date.  The Website currently does not take action in response to these signals.  

DATA COLLECTION FROM CHILDREN.

The Website is not intended for use by minors under 18.  We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors, and the Website is not intended to solicit personal information of any kind from minors.  If we are informed that we have unintentionally received personal information from a minor, we will delete that information.  If you want to notify us of our possible receipt of personal information from a minor, please contact us at contact@apventures.org.

SECURITY.

While no data transmission over the Internet is 100% secure from intrusion, we maintain reasonable physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information.  However, it is possible that third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications despite our efforts to prevent this, and we, therefore, make no guarantees regarding the security of your personal information.  Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any personal information you transmit to us, and you understand that any personal information that you transfer to us is done at your own risk.  If we learn of a security system breach, we may post a notice via the Website or notify you so that you can take appropriate protective steps.  

CALIFORNIA’S “SHINE THE LIGHT” LAW.

APV does not share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

The Website may contain links to websites, applications, interfaces, services, and/or platforms operated by third parties.  APV is not responsible for the privacy practices of any such websites, applications, interfaces, services, or platforms.  If you visit any such website, application, interface, service, or platform we encourage you to review the applicable privacy policy of such third party to determine, among other things, how they will use any personal information that they may collect from you.

The Website is intended for use within the United States.
